[Estimated reading time: 3 mins]
This article applies to users of the futures copy trading feature. When the elite trader you copy holds stock contract positions, such as U.S. stock contracts, and the underlying stock undergoes a stock split or reverse stock split, the system will automatically adjust your copy trading position.
What is a stock split or reverse stock split adjustment?
A stock split or reverse stock split adjustment occurs when the underlying stock of a stock contract changes its share ratio.
For example, if a company completes a 1-to-4 stock split, one share is split into four shares. In this case, the system will automatically adjust the position quantity for both the trader and the followers to make sure the position value remains unchanged.
This adjustment only changes the position quantity and related position details. It does not change the actual value of your position.
How this affects your copy trading position
When a stock split or reverse stock split adjustment occurs, your copy trading position will be automatically closed first and then rebuilt according to the new ratio.
The entire process is completed by the system. You do not need to take any action.
Before and after the adjustment:
• Your position value remains unchanged.
• Your copy trading relationship will not be interrupted.
• When the trader later closes the position, your position can still be closed accordingly as usual.
Notifications you will receive
After the adjustment is completed, you will receive in-app message notifications.
You may receive the following notifications:
• The position you followed has completed the stock split/reverse stock split closing : This means the old position has been closed by the system.
• Your copy trading position has been rebuilt according to the new ratio : This means the new position has been created by the system based on the adjusted ratio.
These notifications are normal and only indicate that the system has completed the stock split or reverse stock split adjustment.
If you follow multiple traders at the same time
If you use Diversified Exploration Mode to follow multiple traders at the same time, and these traders all hold positions in the same stock contract, the system will restore the corresponding position share for each trader separately after the stock split or reverse stock split.
The system will calculate the rebuilt position based on your original copy trading ratio for each trader.
For example, if both elite trader A and elite trader B hold the same stock contract, the system will adjust the copied position share linked to each trader separately. When elite trader A closes the position, only the portion of the position corresponding to elite trader A will be closed. The position corresponding to elite trader B will not be affected.
1. Will my copy trading be interrupted during the stock split or reverse stock split adjustment?
No. After the system completes the position replacement, the copy trading relationship will be automatically restored. When the trader later closes the position normally, your position will still be closed proportionally.
2. Will my account value decrease after the adjustment?
No. A stock split or reverse stock split only changes the position quantity and does not change the actual value of the position. For example, after a 1-to-4 stock split, the position quantity becomes four times the original amount, but the unit price is adjusted accordingly, so the total value remains unchanged.
3. Will crypto contracts such as BTC and ETH be affected?
No. Stock split and reverse stock split adjustments only apply to stock contract positions, such as U.S. stock contracts. The copy trading logic for crypto contracts and commodity contracts is not affected.
4. Does the “stock split/reverse stock split” label in copy trading records mean something went wrong?
No. The labels stock split/reverse stock split long open , stock split/reverse stock split short open , stock split/reverse stock split long close , and stock split/reverse stock split short close are normal system labels. They indicate that the order was automatically generated by the system due to a stock split or reverse stock split, and was not actively placed by the trader.
This label is only displayed in copy trading records from the trader’s perspective.
5. What will happen if the position quantity becomes extremely small after a reverse stock split?
If the position quantity corresponding to a certain trader becomes 0 after a reverse stock split due to precision limitations, that trader’s later position closing will no longer trigger a corresponding closing of your position. In this case, the related copy trading relationship will automatically end.
